Headmaster’s Roundtable

The Headmaster’s Roundtable provides an opportunity for students to develop and demonstrate leadership skills. Two Middle School students from each grade are chosen by their teachers to meet monthly with the Head of School to discuss various aspects of school life. These may include planning for a Lock-in, Final Exam schedules, school lunch menus or even “free dress days.”

Journalism (7)

Students in Grade 7 have the opportunity to take leadership roles in creating a quarterly Middle School yearbook. Students learn about interview techniques, how to write an article and desktop publishing.

Knesset (Grades 3-8)

The Student Council organization at the Eleanor Kolitz Academy is called the Knesset in reference to the legislative body of Israel. It is made up of officers and class representatives from grades 3-8. The representatives are the “voice” of the student body. The Knesset is a service organization which assists in and sponsors many school activities throughout the school year. The Knesset also raises funds for a variety of worthy organizations. The Knesset gives students an opportunity to demonstrate leadership and responsibility as well as to be a role model for other students to follow.

National Jr. Honor Society (Grades 7-8)

Membership in the National Junior Honor Society of Eleanor Kolitz Academy is open to those students who meet the required standards in five areas of evaluation: scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. Standards for selection are established by the national office of NJHS and have been revised to meet our local chapter needs. Students are selected to be members by a five-member Faculty Council, appointed by the principal, which bestows this honor upon qualified students on behalf of the faculty of our school each spring.

Students in the 7th and 8th grades are eligible for membership. For the scholarship criterion, a student must have a cumulative grade point average of 92.0. Those students who met this criterion are invited to complete a Student Activity Information Form that provides the Faculty Council with information regarding the candidate’s leadership and service. A history of leadership experiences and participation in school or community service is required. Top

Yearbook (Grade 8)

Eighth Graders, under the guidance of an advisor, create the EKA Yearbook during their technology classes. The year book reflects the school year for all students and grades at the EKA. While working with a professional yearbook company’s software and the EKA’s technology tools, students learn basic layout, graphic arts, and digital editing skills. In addition they select the content for a DVD that is a supplement to the Yearbook and is put together by the yearbook company.
